Oh Pompeii
A stroll through the ancient city, with the bronzes of Igor Mitoraj
In 2016, videographer Mark Schulze and producer Patty Mooney of Crystal Pyramid Productions walked the ruins of Pompeii with a camera. That year the streets, temples and forum were shared with the monumental sculptures of Polish artist Igor Mitoraj, and the film follows where ancient stone and modern bronze meet.

About the film
Pompeii was buried in AD 79 and has fascinated historians and archaeologists ever since. For this video stroll, Mark Schulze and Patty Mooney took in the city at walking pace, letting its frescoes, mosaics and grand public spaces unfold one after another.
Their visit coincided with an exhibition of Igor Mitoraj’s sculpture. His figures, classical in form and rooted in ancient mythology, were set among the ruins to complement them, adding a modern presence to the ancient city. The camera lingers on their details and on how naturally they settle into their surroundings.
The result is an immersive portrait of one of the most iconic cities of the Roman world, and of an artist who spoke its visual language centuries later.
