BICYCLE FRIENDS

A music video by Patty Mooney

Bicycle Friends celebrates one of the simplest and greatest pleasures of mountain biking: spending a beautiful day on the trail with people who love riding as much as you do.

Filmed in the Cleveland National Forest during springtime, when the hills are green, wildflowers are blooming and the nearby lake is full of water, the video follows a group of mountain bikers riding the Los Gatos Trail through the Laguna Mountains of San Diego County.

There are no starting gates and no finish-line clocks.

This is mountain biking for the sheer pleasure of it.

The riders wind through sun-dappled singletrack, negotiate rocky sections and sweep through turns beneath tall pines. They regroup at overlooks, catch their breath, exchange stories and then head down the trail again.

The landscape becomes as much a character as the riders themselves. Golden meadows stretch toward distant mountains. Forest gives way to open country. Spring flowers line the trail as bicycles move through a landscape transformed by the season.

At the heart of Bicycle Friends is camaraderie.

Mountain biking creates an unusual kind of friendship. Riders share climbs, mechanical mishaps, spectacular views, unexpected obstacles and the exhilarating moments when gravity takes over and everything seems to flow.

A whoop echoing through the trees can say as much as a conversation.

The original song by Patty Mooney accompanies the ride with a celebration of friendship, freedom and life on two wheels. Rather than narrating the action, the music becomes part of its rhythm, moving with the bicycles as they roll through the forest.

Created by filmmaker and longtime mountain biker Patty Mooney, Bicycle Friends is an affectionate portrait of recreational riding and the friendships that grow from countless hours spent together on dirt.

No podiums. No pressure.

Just bicycles, friends and a good trail on a beautiful day.

Why It Matters

Bicycle Friends celebrates an aspect of mountain biking that can easily be overshadowed by racing, extreme terrain and athletic achievement: friendship.

For many riders, the most memorable days are not measured by finishing times or miles ridden. They are remembered through the people who were there.

A favorite trail. A ridiculous mishap. Someone waiting at the top of a climb. A spectacular view shared at a regroup point. The sound of friends laughing somewhere farther down the mountain.

The video preserves that feeling while also capturing the seasonal beauty of Southern California mountain biking, when winter rains transform normally dry hillsides into green meadows filled with spring flowers.

At its heart, Bicycle Friends is about the happiness of being outdoors, moving through a landscape under your own power and sharing the experience with people who understand exactly why you love to ride.
